GIBRALTAR
The name Gibraltar is a corruption of the Arabic Jebel al-Tariq, "The Mountain of Tariq", after one Tariq-ibn-Ziyad, the Moorish chief who captured the Rock in 711 and used it as a bridgehead for his invasion of Spain.
It was retaken by the Spanish in 1462, but in 1704 Sir George Rooke took possession for the British, it became a Crown Colony in 1830.
After crossing the border, we will do a panoramic tour in private minibuses, which will ride you to the most important tourist sites in the English town: Europa Point, the Trinidad Lighthouse, the viewpoint of the Columns of Hercules and St Michael's Cave to discover all its astonishing geological formations.
Up in the mountain, you will get the chance to meet the most popular inhabitants of Gibraltar: the cheeky free-roaming Barbary apes. After taking some fun pictures of these primates, we will drive back to the historical city center to take a stroll along the famous Main Street. The tour will end with some free time to shop or have a traditional “Fish and Chips” lunch on own.
